flounce
flounce, vb, to make a dramatic exit, in a huff, from an internet forum or thread.
I love that word. Flounce. It reminds me of edwardian ladies in silken petticoats, sighing dramatically, and being what their husbands would have called hysterical.
So of course I had to make a graphic to go with it. It’s a pity none of us ever participate in the sort of forums where it would be fun to post such a thing. Someone flounced off a mailing list that I belongs to, today, but the effect is somewhat lost in plaintext. If you like it and think you have a use for it, please feel free to use and distribute (click the thumbnail for fullsize)

Escher in Lego
Last night I was talking to Kat about art, and Escher in particular. Whilst googling for examples I stumbled across the website of Andrew Lipson, who has reproduced some Escher pictures in Lego. You know, the ones that are optical illusions and cannot possibly work in 3 dimensions? Well, he did.
Here are a few of my favourite ones. At the bottom is a direct link to the creator’s website, in which he explains how they’re done.
This next one really did my head in. I couldnt work out how it was done.
And the link to the spoilers, and more constructions, is here: Andrew Lipson

the ethics of feline aesthetics
Thanks to shadowfirebird for pointing me to this.
These pics come from a book on painted cats. Apparently the book was published several years ago and one or two of these pics have been circulated on the internet without people actually knowing where they’re from. Some of them are stunningly beautiful. I have posted my favourites here (click the thumbnails to see bigger ones)
For the rest of the pics go here.
Then read this (below the cut)

more art
After the commission I mentioned yesterday, I’ve got a firm order for another, although I’ve been expecting this for quite a while, the customer finally agreed to it. So I shall be very busy with paint and brush in the next 2-3 weeks, which means less time online for a while.
But yay for more material for my portfolio. This is a good thing.

squigglepage
This blog is so good, it rated a whole page feature in a UK national newspaper
Basically it’s a blog maintained by two artists. One will make a doodle or squiggle, and challenge the other to make a complete artwork of it, with the original squiggle still visible. Then the other artist will post his finished art, and make a challenge of his own. Thus they duel on the blog between doodle and art.
Speaking of art, I had a phone call today, someone wants to see me about a commission for a painting. It’s a friend, moreover it’s a friend who doesn’t have much money, so I won’t be making much off it, but I’m quite looking forward to getting back into painting again. I’ll be seeing said friend on Wednesday.
